The Value of Street Soccer in Today's Environment
“My position is this: street soccer is the most natural educational system that can be found." - Rinus Michels
By analyzing street soccer yourself, you will conclude that its strength is that it is played daily in a competitive form, with a preference for the match on all sorts of 'street playing fields', usually in small groups. Rarely in street soccer do you see youths busy practicing isolated technical and tactical drills. No, it is always the competitive form, where youth players learn from their mistakes, unconscious of the technical, tactical, mental and physical qualities they are developing through the scrimmages being played.
Playing soccer every day ensures this development. It is a process where it is not necessary for adults to be present. You also learn the team tactical principles without effort through playing the game. Your teammate, higher in the street soccer hierarchy, forces you to comply. Continue Story...

The
process to find the next generation of OSYSA’s State, Regional and National
team players will begin on at the district sites during the fall training/identification
sessions. Please see the ODP section of the OSYSA web site (www.osysa.com)
for times, locations, details, player registration as well as coaching
opportunities.
The
ODP’s primary mission is to identify the best players in the country for
youth and senior World Cups and Olympic competition. Emphasizing the success
of this process over the years, every member of the 2004 Women’s Olympic
Team roster was a product of the
US Youth Soccer Olympic
Development Program.
A secondary
purpose of ODP is to develop both players and coaches for levels who may
not be at the ODP level, and it is this secondary purpose which best explains
why the state and regional team selection and training process is critical
to the continued growth of the game.
